Yara 2023

In this backtest, we are looking at Yara, the Norwegian chemicals company. The data was pulled on 11 October 2024. Both Yara's and our OSMA analysis concur in the majority of ESRS topics to be included, and excluded. Rather than conducting lengthy and expensive stakeholder surveys every year, risking stakeholder fatigue, OSMA offers a quick and simple way to check for any changes that can be trusted to produce comprehensive and reliable results.

Alignment of Topic Materiality

Yara 2023

Comparing the two assessments, there is significant agreement in what is material. Yara includes S1 Own Workforce and S2 Workers in the Value Chain, which Mettle doesn't determine material.

Topic Materiality over time

2023

2024

There is a significant change year on year in the order of material topics. In 2023, E1 Climate Change was the most material topics but that is replaced in 2024 by G1 Business conduct. E5 Circular Economy and E2 Pollution remain material. The threshold for immaterial is between S3 Affected Communities and E3 Water and marine resources.

Which sub-topics are showing shifts in materiality

The signficant change at subtopic level is in E1.2 Climate change mitigation and E5.1 Resources infllows. In both cases the subtopic remains material but less so. There are increases in E5.2 Resources outflows and G1.3 Animal welfare.

Materiality of Non-ESRS subtopics

Developed using SASB taxonomy and Mettle's own unique Trust, Reputation, Thematic models. The taxonomies intentionally have some overlap with each other and with the ESRS taxonomy. Key to this analysis is identifying new topics not specified in ESRS, but meeting the requirement to determine anything else that is material. In Yara use case, Mettle would recommend Ukraine and Artificial Intelligence be included in material topics to be reported.
