What does Mettle Capital do?

Mettle is a leader in Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) for sustainability, offering tools for CSRD reporting, investment signals, corporate reporting, and investor preference detection. We curate and analyse publicly available data to reveal actionable insights for CSRD reporters, asset managers, corporate strategists, auditors, pension funds, and researchers.

What can I do with Mettle's tools?

Mettle provides four unique solutions. 1. OSMA. Open Source Materiality Assessment: Automates CSRD materiality assessments for CSRD reporters to automate the DMA process in a matter of minutes 2. OSIS. Open Source Investment Signal: Identifies investment signals in sustainability data for investors 3. OSCR Open Source Company Research: Unlocks value in intangible assets for executives looking for increased business value 4. OSIP. Open Source Investor Preferences: Maps sustainable investment preferences for pension funds.

Where do you fit in the sustainability market?

Mettle is a provider of sustainability data. We use an open source intelligence approach to determine which sustainability issues are material to a company. In that way, we can calculate the correlation between the sentiment of those material issues and a company's share price. We believe that proving the value of sustainable business is the most efficient and effective way to make business act sustainably.

What's the background of Mettle Capital?

Mettle Capital was founded by Dr Andrew Tucker and Rufus Grantham in December 2019. Andrew brought academic expertise in big data techniques for intangible asset valuation, while Rufus contributed 25 years of experience in sell-side equity research in London. The initial datasets were developed during the Covid-19 pandemic and have since expanded to cover over 5,000 companies globally. In 2024, we launched our first products, OSMA and OSIS, with more innovations—OSCR and OSIP—set for release in the near future.

Why is Mettle credible?

Mettle applies a proven, historically-rooted open-source intelligence (OSINT) approach, refined for corporate use. OSINT has been used by intelligence agencies since World War II to gather, analyse, and interpret publicly available information to support strategic and operational decisions. Additionally, we collaborate with leading academic institutions across Europe and the UK to validate, and ‘peer-review’ our methods and data. Our partners include faculty from UCL, Cologne, Lausanne, Brunel, Bath, and Oxford Brookes universities. From a commercial perspective we’re also bolstered by being part of the EY FinTech Growth Programme and the Microsoft Founders Hub.

How do I get started with Mettle?

Simply use the “Contact Us” form on our website to request user credentials for our dashboard. We offer a 7-day free trial of the full dataset, during which we’ll check in to ensure everything is going smoothly. Our team is available to answer any questions about the dashboard, API, or data.

Is machine learning the same as Artificial Intelligence?

Not exactly - machine learning (ML) is a very specific subset of artificial intelligence (AI). AI refers to the broader concept of machines simulating human intelligence to perform tasks like reasoning, problem-solving, and understanding language. Machine learning, on the other hand, is a specific approach that uses algorithms to identify patterns in data and improve automatically through experience. At Mettle, we use machine learning extensively to analyse vast amounts of data, from assessing sentiment to determining materiality. By training our models on diverse datasets, we ensure that they adapt to complex, noisy, and evolving information sources. However, our approach also incorporates human oversight—ensuring that the insights generated by ML are accurate, contextual, and actionable.
